May is Motorcycle Safety Month

May is Motorcycle Safety Month

May is Motorcycle Safety Month and the Department of Motor Vehicles is reminding motorists of some helpful safety tips.

According to the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, there are more than 655,000 licensed motorcyclists and more than 34,000 registered motorcycles in New York State.

In the past 10 years, motorcycle licenses have increased by 28 percent and registrations have increased by 76 percent.

“With the summer months approaching we will be seeing more motorcycles take to our roadways,” said Commissioner Fiala. “We want to make sure motorcyclists are using proper safety precautions and remind motorists to watch for them and share the road,” said Barbara J. Fiala, NYS DMV Commissioner and Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee Chair.

History Hikes to explore Bethlehem hamlets

History Hikes to explore Bethlehem hamlets

History Hikes will explore four of Bethlehem’s hamlets with Hike Guide and Town Historian Susan Leath. The first hike will be in Henry Hudson Park on Saturday, May 12.

Leath will provide historical information about the historic areas that each has their own character. The hikes are free but require registration because enrollment is limited to 15.

CREDC to hold meeting Tuesday, May 1

CREDC to hold meeting Tuesday, May 1

The Capital Region Economic Development Council will hold a meeting on Tuesday, May 1.

According to a statement, the CREDC meeting will include an update on council activities and project tracking, an overview of the council’s new workgroup structure and a quick presentation on the work of the regional councils in 2012 and the second round of the Consolidated Funding Application process.

People who attend the meeting will also have the opportunity to provide the council with written questions and feedback related to the Strategic Plan and CFA process.

The meeting will begin at 2 p.m. at the RPI East Campus Athletic Village (ECAV) gymnasium in Troy.

Members of the CREDC, businesses, individuals, organizations, labor and education representatives from the Capital Region are invited to attend the event.

The council defines the Capital Region as Albany, Columbia, Greene, Saratoga, Schenectady, Rensselaer, Warren and Washington counties.

Volunteers needed for Comprehensive Plan Assessment Committee

The newly formed Comprehensive Plan Assessment Committee is seeking volunteer members. The last day to apply for a volunteer position will be Monday, April 30.

The Town of Bethlehem is seeking 15 individuals representing a cross-section of community stakeholders that include people with substantial involvement in land use issues.

The committee has been charged to elevate progress on the goals and objectives of the 2005 Comprehensive Plan and subsequent CPOC Report.
